Important Takeaways

There was so much information that we learned about as a class throughout our three week intensive. It would be hard to put all of that education into one website. So here, we will hear about the biggest takeaways that came out of our time together. From when I started the class, I didn't know a whole lot about music, besides that it was my favorite part about driving. I have always loved listening to music whenever I get the chance. But I would mainly focus on the lyrics and songs that just made me feel a certain emotion at a certain time. Now, I am able to listen to music more deeply than I have before. I can understand the elements that go into music, and value what's playing besides just the vocals. We also spent some time on music vocabulary. I can't say that I've memorized it all, but I have the gist of it down, and can tell (from lots of practice) where those parts play into different songs. We learned more about ourselves, and the people in our class. As we discussed, your cultural identity is just that, yours. We learned how we want to shape ourselves, and what could be important to us, and our parents. We learned how to write our very own music, individually, and as a class. This was hard for me because the platforms I tried to use were confusing, but with the help from my class, I now understand it better. Overall though, we learned about love when it comes to ourselves and others. As Kinan Azmeh said, "Don't take yourself too seriously" and I don't think that we did. This was a judgment free zone, where we were (by the end) comfortable with each other, and open to any idea. Through everything that we learned, that is my biggest takeaway. Even over zoom, we created a community of nothing but kindness and happiness despite our differences. That is something very special.
