In the World Music Adventure Intensive, we focused a lot of our time around a group called the Silk Road Ensemble. Not only do they create beautiful music, they also send a great message. Their whole purpose is to take people and music of other cultures and combine it together into one collective piece. They have recorded a lot of music, and the performances are fun and engaging to watch (I recommend that you check them out). Through listening to them, we have learned about many interesting people, places, and instruments. We have done much of the same in our class a group of people who hardly know each other, connecting and bonding over music and culture. I now have a better understanding of these things, and appreciate them more. In the world that we live in today, it is especially important to educate ourselves about those who are different from us. This way, we can be more accepting and loving towards them. Instead of all of the hate that we hear so much about, we can spread kindness and make a difference little by little. Music is just one way that we can do this, and who doesn't love to listen to music. Even if it's not your preferred genre, there is still much to enjoy in listening to any sort of music. Its a fun and simple way to celebrate other people and their hard work. I think that this class has in some way or another, made us all a little bit better people in this world.
